In Ghana thousands of children, ages five to fourteen, are enslaved in the fishing industry on Lake Volta. Traffickers and fisherman purchase or rent children from their parents for forced labor. They work long shifts lifting nets, diving and hauling catch from unsafe boats. The children suffer from malnutrition and untreated illnesses. Black Rock partners with IJM in Ghana to rescue the enslaved children, provide aftercare for survivors to restore them to health and hope, and work with local authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable.
